ABOUT COMMUNITY CARES KC

The Gem Cultural and Educational Center proposes to work with a local consultant company and a collaboration of a core team of the Housing Advocacy Coalition to conduct research, convening, and the formulation of a holistic set of recommendations for policy change, partnerships, and deployment of resources. It is the desire of the coalition to focus on single family infill, rehab and small scale development. Engagement of community members and stakeholders who are proximate to the problem is foundational.

• What does true equitable affordability look like? 
• How can the gaps be filled for the high costs of construction and labor for quality, energy efficient homes? 

How can each partner in this space from the KCMO Land Bank to MARC align their goals, as strategies, and resources to support vibrant communities with housing that:

• Increases family health and longevity through the housing affordability, quality and security
• Increases community stability and safety through infill development
• Increases opportunities for children to receive consistent education and build social networks
• Increases opportunities for generational wealth creation
• Focuses solutions on systemic change to racial discrimination and inequity in housing opportunity

The factors above are the purpose of this work, and the process to achieve this purpose has three main components:

2. Convening
3. Recommendation formulation.
